Cargo Cult is a cocktail made with rum and various other ingredients. It takes its name from the Cargo Cults of the South Pacific, which began in the 1940s when islanders observed American servicemen arriving with material objects they had never seen before - such as radios, clothing, and vehicles. The islanders began to imitate the behavior of the Americans, hoping that they too would be rewarded with cargo.
The Cargo Cult cocktail was created by bartender Don Lee in San Francisco in 2006. It is made with Bacardi 8 rum, passion fruit puree, fresh lime juice, honey syrup, and angostura bitters.
How to drink: Cargo Cult can be served on the rocks or straight up.
