Havana Club rum is distilled in Havana, Cuba. The brand dates back to 1878, when José Arechabala founded a rum distillery in the Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba.
The company exported its products to the United States and Europe, and by the 1930s, Havana Club was the best-selling rum in the world. Following the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the Cuban government nationalized the Arechabala family's business, and Havana Club has been produced by the state-owned Cuban company Cubay since then.
Although it is no longer produced by the Arechabala family, Havana Club rum maintains its original recipe and tradition of quality. The rum is made from a blend of Cuban sugarcane molasses and distilled in copper pot stills. It is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years.
Havana Club rum has a smooth, mellow flavor with notes of vanilla and caramel. It is the perfect rum for enjoying neat or on the rocks. Havana Club also makes a variety of flavored rums, including Havana Club Añejo Reserva, which is aged for five years and has a deep, rich flavor.
