El Jolgorio Tobaziche Mezcal is made from the Tobaziche agave plant, which is native to the region around Oaxaca, Mexico. The history of mezcal dates back to the 16th century, when Spanish conquistadors brought the first agave plants to Mexico. Mezcal was originally made in small batches for local consumption, but over time it became more popular and began to be exported. Today, El Jolgorio is one of the most popular brands of mezcal, and its Tobaziche Mezcal is considered to be one of the best.
The Tobaziche agave plant grows in the arid climate of the Oaxaca region, where it is nurtured by the sun and the mineral-rich soil. The plants take 8-10 years to mature, and are then harvested by hand. After being cooked in traditional stone ovens, the agave hearts are crushed and fermented before being distilled in copper stills.
El Jolgorio Tobaziche Mezcal is straw-colored with a smoky aroma. Its flavor is earthy and slightly sweet, with notes of citrus and herbs. It is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.
