Islay

The Islay whisky region is one of the most famous whisky producing regions in the world. Islay whiskies are known for their smoky, peaty flavor, which is a result of the Islay malts being dried over peat fires.

Some of the most famous Islay whiskies include Laphroaig, Lagavulin, and Ardbeg. While all of these whiskies have a smoky flavor, they each have their own unique taste.

The history of whisky production on Islay dates back to the late 18th century. In 1794, John Johnston founded the first distillery on Islay - Lagavulin Distillery. The distillery was later acquired by Distillers Company Limited (DCL), which would go on to become one of the largest whisky producers in the world.

Today, there are eight distilleries operating on Islay, and the region produces some of the most popular whiskies in the world.
