People often use the term Craft Beer for a Beer brewed by an independent brewery that produces a small amount of liquor. Unfortunately, it is tough to define the 'small amount' as no set definition exists to explain it.
According to most connoisseurs, Craft Beer is a drink prepared in an independently owned brewery that is not a part of any large corporation. Well, 98% of existing breweries of the United States produce Beer in a craftsmanship way.
However, a craft brewery owned by a large corporation mass produces a Beer. Technically, it stops being a craft beverage, but most companies still label such Beers as craft-made.
Generally, Craft Beer prepared with traditional ingredients, such as malted barley, and non-traditional ingredients often add distinctiveness. Such products are usually marketed or perceived as emphasising motivation, new flavours, and different brewing techniques.
You can find different types of Craft Beer in one single online store: "Hello Drinks Superstore." We are an independent liquor shop that caters to all parts of Australia. We have more than 4000 alcoholic products from local and international suppliers.
You can get your favourite liquor product on our website at affordable prices. So, order now and get it at your doorstep within a day or two.
Different Characteristics of Craft Beer
Some properties that set a craft brewery apart from different mass-production Beer corporations are as follows:
- Size: In the United States, a craft brewery is a small unit. Typically, it produces not more than six million brew barrels per year.
- Independence: A craft brewery is an independently owned unit by a few people. Nowadays, big corporations can not control or own a craft brewery, not more than 25 % of it.
- Authenticity: A craft brewery always uses traditional techniques to brew Beer. It does not use additives, such as rice or corn to speed up the production process.
- Innovation: The small brewery searches for unique, new flavours and improves traditional old recipes. So, you can find more than 150 styles of Craft Beer.
- Origin: The craft brewery production is entirely transparent. You are always welcome to learn about their ingredients or techniques.
- Community: Craft breweries are everywhere, but they firmly connect to the local community. Anyone is welcome to enjoy the tour. Also, craft brewers donate their beverages and become sponsors of various local events.
Types of Craft Beer
Over the past few decades, many people have appreciated craft Beer, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. There are several craft breweries in every state, and various new craft Beers pop up each year.
Here are some popular types of craft beer:
-
American Pale Ale
It is one of the most popular types of craft beer. It has a distinctive flavour of hops that differentiates it from European craft beers. Its strong taste pairs well with fruitier and sweeter flavours, like grapefruit and caramel.
-
Kolsch & Blonde
They are craft beer styles from southwest Germany. Makers produce them using hops, Pils or pale malt, and yeast for a clean and crisp taste. They mature in cool brewing conditions for several weeks to make a transparent drink.
-
Belgium Pale Ale
Belgium pale ale brewed from pilsner or pale malts has a fruity yet mildly spicy flavour. The makers add Belgian ale yeast to introduce a unique flavour. It is easy to drink and often offers subtle herbal, floral, or spicy undertones.
-
Hefeweizen
Hefeweizen is a well-known craft beer from Germany. It has a distinct wheat flavour, and it shares various similarities with American wheat ale. It often has banana or bubble-gum undertones.
-
Porter and Stouts
Makers brew porters with chocolate to accentuate the roasted malts or coffee to add bitter flavours. Then, they age in whiskey barrels to add heat and depth. They are usually dark in colour with low levels of hop bitterness.
Whereas stouts are alcoholic beers with dark brown colour and a bitter finish.
-
Brown Ale
Brown ales taste quite mild and have caramel-focused malt undertones. They lack the roasted style American brown's feature.
-
Amber (Red) Ale
Amber ale is an easy and smooth drink developed early in American craft brewing. It tends to have the strongest hoppy flavours.

Production Process of a Craft Beer
Craft Beer consists of four essential ingredients: Barley (or any other grain), hops, water, and yeast. In its brewing process, makers extract sugars from grains to convert yeast into CO2 and alcohol, resulting in Beer.
Different stages of the Craft Beer production process are as follows:
-
Malting
Though barley is the most popular cereal grain for Craft Beer production, it can also use other grains like wheat or rye. After grain harvesting, seeds undergo the malting process. After that, it aims to start seed germinating.
The germination process activates starch enzymes to create fermentable sugars by adding the yeast in the process later. However, it is necessary to stop the germination process at the right time. Grain harvested out has 10 to 12 per cent moisture content.
After germination, dry the grains back to three to five per cent moisture content through kilning. Lastly, roast the grains.
-
Mash and Lauter
After malting the grains, steep them in hot water again. The mashing process activates starch enzymes in cereal grains to release sugar. Then, drain the water leaving a syrupy, sweet liquid called wort.
However, there are still some grain parts left. So, next, separate wort from grains.
-
Boiling and Adding Hops
After lautering, add hops and other spices. Hops are pine cone-looking small fruit that grows on vines. They provide bitterness to balance the sugar in the wort. In addition, hops have a natural preservative quality.
-
Fermentation: Ales and Lagers
Beer is divided into two categories: ales and lagers. The type of yeast used and the fermentation process determines these two groups. After adding hops and finishing boiling, the liquid goes to a fermenting vessel to add yeast.
Yeast is a single-cell, living microorganism classified as fungi. After adding the yeast, it breaks down sugar and creates carbonization (CO2 and) alcohol.
Ales are fermented at approximately 64 degrees and can be drunk within three weeks. Whereas lager is the German word, "to store." They are fermented at around 50 degrees and then stored for several months near-freezing temperatures.
-
Bottling
After Beer fermentation, fill it in the bottles, kegs, aluminium cans, or casks.
