Courvoisier XO Imperial Cognac is a blended cognac that is aged for a minimum of ten years. It is produced in the region of Jarnac, France. The blend consists of eaux-de-vie from the Grande and Petite Champagnes, as well as the Borderies regions.
Courvoisier can trace its roots back to 1809 when Emmanuel Courvoisier founded the company in partnership with Louis Gallois. The company quickly established itself as one of the leading cognac producers, thanks to its innovative marketing and high-quality products.
In 1811, Napoleon Bonaparte visited the Courvoisier distillery and was so impressed with the Cognac that he ordered it to be served at his state dinners. This association with Napoleon helped to boost the company's reputation even further.
The company remained in family hands until 1971 when it was acquired by Martell. In 2005, Martell was itself acquired by Pernod Ricard, who still own Courvoisier today.
The Cognac region is located in southwestern France, between the cities of Bordeaux and Angoulême. The region is divided into six sub-regions, with Courvoisier's eaux-de-vie coming from the Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and Borderies regions.
The climate in Cognac is relatively mild, with the region experiencing hot summers and cold winters. This climate is ideal for the slow maturation of cognac, which requires a period of at least ten years aging in French oak casks.
Courvoisier XO Imperial Cognac has a complex flavor profile that is dominated by notes of dried fruits, vanilla, and spices. It has a smooth and mellow finish that lingers on the palate. Whether enjoyed neat or as part of an elegant cocktail, Courvoisier XO Imperial Cognac is sure to impress.₹
