The Mortlach is a unique scotch because it's finished in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso-seasoned casks. This gives the aged whisky an extra layer of flavor which Mirror's its complexity just as much as 2.81 does!
Little-known Mortlach may be the best kept secret in Scotch, with its robust and meaty nature that sets it apart from other breeds. Its flavor profile distinguishing this special type as easily recognizable by its royalty within GlenDufftown like an bull elk or mature red deer stag; emitousing proudly through pray all year long!
A very rare release with limited availability of 7,692 bottles worldwide.
Serving Suggestion: Very fine to drink straight and also with a small dash of water, certainly one for a special occasion.
The nose starts out with a mellow, rounded feel. The first impression is rich dried fruits and beneath this fresh-baked buttered scones perhaps spread with lime marmalade; soon it becomes lightly savoury yet still retains its slight citrus note to make for an appetizing aroma that's enhanced by water - which reduces the intensity quite nicely!
At natural strength, mild for its strength and super-smooth in texture, while the wonderfully rich mouth-filling taste is immediately sweet overall with dried fruits, then intense and savoury with a surprising kick of chili pepper as it goes down. Magnificently feral and delicious. Drying overall, with rich tannins. Similar with a dash of water, which raises a little more sweet, spiced fruit.
With a warming glow spreading across the palate, this Whisky is both deeply impressive and seemingly endless. The fruit flavors are in perfect agreement with its savoury notes while leaving you feeling dry at last - yet still wreathed in that glorious rich afterglow.
