The style of Japanese Whisky is almost similar to Scotch Whisky. Several brands are producing Whisky in Japan, but Suntory and Nikka are some of the best brands for Japanese Whisky. These companies produce both Blended Whisky and Single Malt Whisky.

What Makes Japanese Whisky Different from Scotch?

Japanese Whisky is technically not much different from Scotch. However, most distilleries in Japan are committed to following Scottish standards. So, they import barley from the United Kingdom.

Though they don't deviate from the formula, distillers take the proper time to prepare it correctly instead of making it quickly. As a result, every Whisky lover appreciates the resulting Japanese liquor.

How to Serve a Japanese Whisky?

The following are some ways to serve Japanese Whisky:

  • Whisky in Highball Glass

Highballs and Japanese Whisky go hand in hand. But, while the highball is a standard of Japanese drinking culture, it's also taking off with American drinkers. Highballs are refreshing and light. However, they are generally lower proof than other cocktails.

Serve highballs as mealtime companions, session drinks, or just as anything else. If you prepare them correctly, they will highlight the Whisky flavours instead of masking them.

Suntory Toki style Whisky shines best in such a presentation, as the green fruits of Hakushu malt Whisky. It is very important in the essential malt, bubbling to the foreground.

  • Cocktails

After the release of Suntory Toki, bartenders can let their imaginations run wild while putting Japanese Whisky to use in an unlimited array of cocktails.

Ingredients:

  • Suntory Tok i- 1.5 ounces
  • Matcha-Infused Dolin dry - 1-ounce
  • Velvet Falernum - 25 ounce
  • Chocolate Bitters
  • Charred Candied Cantaloupe - 1 piece
  • Lemon Peel

Directions:

  • Add Suntory Toki into the mixing glass.
  • Then, pour matcha infused Dolin dry and chocolate bitters into it.
  • Now, add velvet falernum into the mixture.

Stir them and serve up. You can garnish it with a piece of charred candied cantaloupe, and an expressed lemon peel.

  • Oyuwari

Oyuwari is a particular way of serving a Japanese Whisky in hot water, and also this practice is common in Japan. It does the same thing as carbonation. Oyuwari is a very natural partner and opposite to the highball."

In other words, the change in temperature and dilution perfectly work together to change the Whisky by opening it or taking it in a new direction.

Oyuwari makes more distinctive flavours. However, single malt is not the right approach, to begin with. Instead, the primary key is to start with a blended whisky because it offers a delicate yet complex profile.

Ideally, serve it in a teacup with a lot of hot water, mint, and nothing else.

If you want to try Oyuwari, then order a Japanese Whisky now!

  • Neat

Japanese Whisky is a versatile drink and best to enjoy neat. It is especially true for Yamazaki 18 Year Mizunara Cask that was released in 2017.

It is sultry and spicy, with incense and sandalwood, green apples and melons, and both white and black pepper. The complexity and depth of flavour speak for themselves.

How to Determine the Authentic or Fake Japanese Whisky?

Though Japanese Whisky is delicious, finding an authentic Japanese Whisky is pretty challenging. The biggest issue impacting the Japanese Whiskies' reputation is its lax labelling laws.

Specifically, as long as Whisky is bottled in Japan and contains a few drops of authentic Japanese Whisky. So, plenty of Scotch and Canadian Whisky ends up getting bottled as such, along with other bottles of Whisky from the United States.

The practice of using imported Whisky to prepare Japanese Whisky has been a long-standing practice. Even big names like Nikka and Suntory do it. But, moreover, that didn't stop various sellers from taking enough advantage of consumers.

How Do Japanese Climates Make a Difference?

The water and climate have a meaningful impact on the making of Japanese Whisky. As the water in Japan is amazingly clear, distillers use mineral water from wells to make some Japanese Whiskies.

Japanese summers are much hotter than in Scotland. So, some whiskies were stored in mountainous warehouses at 95 degrees Fahrenheit during the maturation process.

During winters, the temperature change dynamics applied to the maturation process make maturing more rapid and add complexities to the Whisky.
