History of Mortlach: Mortlach has a long and illustrious history, dating back to 1824 when it was founded by James Mortlach. The distillery was originally known as Mortlach Distillery and Glenburgie-Glenlivet Distillery. It wasn't until 1897 that the distillery was renamed Mortlach Distillery Ltd. In 1948, the distillery was acquired by Joseph Hobbs & Sons Ltd., and in 1963 it was purchased by Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd.
