Gekkeikan Sake

Gekkeikan is a Japanese sake brand that was founded in 1637. The company is headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. Gekkeikan sake is made from rice, water, koji (rice malt), and yeast. The brewing process takes about two months. Gekkeikan sake is light and refreshing, with a slightly sweet taste. It pairs well with Japanese food, but can also be enjoyed on its own.

Gekkeikan sake has a long history, dating back to the Edo period in Japan (1603-1868). The company was founded by Jiemon Okura, who began brewing sake in his home in the town of Fushimi, just outside of Kyoto. Gekkeikan sake quickly gained popularity, and by the early 1800s, Gekkeikan was the largest sake producer in Japan.

During World War II, Gekkeikan sake was one of the few Japanese brands that continued to be exported to the United States. Gekkeikan has been brewed in the United States since 1970, and today Gekkeikan sake is enjoyed by people all over the world.

There are many ways to enjoy Gekkeikan sake. It can be served chilled, at room temperature, or warmed. Gekkeikan sake can be paired with food, or enjoyed on its own as an aperitif or digestif.

If you're new to Gekkeikan sake, we recommend trying it chilled. Gekkeikan Sake is best served in a small cup, called an ochoko or sakazuki. Fill the cup about three-quarters full. Once you've taken a sip, pour the remainder of the sake into your neighbor's cup, and then switch cups with them. This is called kampai, and is a way to show respect and appreciation for your friends and family.
