Makers Mark is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky that has been produced in Loretto, Kentucky since 1953. The history of Makers Mark begins with its founder, Bill Samuels Sr., who purchased the distillery in 1954 from his father-in-law. Samuels was determined to create a bourbon that was smooth and easy to drink, without the harshness that was characteristic of many bourbons at the time. To achieve this, he used a unique wheat recipe instead of the traditional rye recipe. This gave Makers Mark its distinctive taste, which has earned it numerous awards over the years.
Today, Makers Mark is still produced using the same wheat recipe, and is aged for a minimum of six years in new, charred oak barrels. The bourbon is bottled at 90 proof and sold in a distinctive red wax-sealed bottle. Makers Mark is one of the most popular bourbons in the US, and can be found in bars and liquor stores throughout the country.
